Briefing

Three Against an Army

Early Rome. The Etruscan army of King Lars Porsenna is marching on the city, and the only way in is a wooden bridge over the Tiber. Horatius Cocles and two companions take their stand at the far end while the Romans behind them hack at the bridge with axes.

Etruscan horsemen charge, and the bridge shudders. Seven puzzles stand between you and the end of the fight. Solve them all, and one last word names what Horatius was that day.

5

Picture Count — reassemble the bridge and the river, then count what you see.

6

Every answer box checks itself. Spelling and capitals are forgiving, and macrons are never needed.

Steadfast

The password was:

FIRMUS

Firmus — steadfast. Horatius stood firm until the bridge crashed into the river behind him. Then he leapt into the Tiber in full armour and swam back to Rome, and the city was saved.
