The south coast of Britain. King Cogidubnus is holding games in honour of his dead friends, and the highlight is a boat race: the boats must row out to a great rock in the sea, round it, and race back to the shore. The king watches from a decorated stand with his guards, nobles sit on chairs, and horsemen watch from the beach.
Belimicus is sure he will win, but Dumnorix is the better sailor. Seven puzzles stand between you and the finish. Solve them all, and one last word names the winner.
Crossword — the sea, ships and the king's games, in Latin from Book 2.
Anagrams — unscramble seven things done at the race.
Cipher — decode a message in Latin, then answer the riddle it asks.
Matching — two verbs, vincit ("wins") and nāvigat ("sails"), in the imperfect, perfect and pluperfect.
Picture Count — reassemble the shore, then count what you see.
Odd One Out — find the word that doesn't belong in each row to build the story, then answer questions about it.
Final Rebus — one clue from every lock. Their first letters spell the final word.
Every answer box checks itself. Spelling and capitals are forgiving, and macrons are never needed.
Fifteen words from the sea and the race. Every clue gives the English meaning; you supply the Latin. Fill the grid — every crossing letter must agree both ways. Eight cells are marked in red: once the grid is solved, their letters unscramble into one more word.
The grid is correct. Unscramble the eight red letters:
Seven things done at the race. Unscramble each one.

Ventus — the wind. Belimicus steered too close to the rock and ran aground, but Dumnorix rounded it safely, and with the wind behind him he raced home first to win the king's prize.
