Alexandria, the greatest city of Egypt. Under the palms by the harbour, an old Greek scholar sits among shelves of scrolls, teaching a class of boys, while ships come and go below the great lighthouse on the island of Pharos.
Quintus has sailed all the way from Italy, and he wants to learn. Seven puzzles stand between him and the old man's lesson. Solve them all, and one last word tells you what he found there.
Crossword — the harbour, the city and the school, in Latin from Book 2.
Anagrams — unscramble seven things a good pupil does.
Cipher — decode a message in Latin, then answer the riddle it asks.
Matching — two verbs, scrībit ("writes") and audit ("hears"), in the imperfect, perfect and pluperfect.
Picture Count — reassemble the school by the harbour, then count what you see.
Odd One Out — find the word that doesn't belong in each row to build the story, then answer questions about it.
Final Rebus — one clue from every lock. Their first letters spell the final word.
Every answer box checks itself. Spelling and capitals are forgiving, and macrons are never needed.
Sixteen words from the harbour and the school. Every clue gives the English meaning; you supply the Latin. Fill the grid — every crossing letter must agree both ways. Six cells are marked in red: once the grid is solved, their letters unscramble into one more word.
The grid is correct. Unscramble the six red letters:
Seven things a good pupil does. Unscramble each one.
