Escape rooms on C. S. Lewis's Chronicles of Narnia
A self-checking escape room for each of the seven books of C. S. Lewis's Chronicles of Narnia, from The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe to The Last Battle. Every answer comes from the book, so each room checks reading as well as recall. They suit readers from about grade 4 to grade 8, classical homeschoolers, literature circles and book clubs.

For teachers
Each room covers one book, and every answer comes from it, so it checks reading as well as recall. The seven locks:
- Crossword — ten names, places and key words from the book.
- Scrambled names — unscramble seven names or words, with a clue for each.
- Secret message — decode a shift-three cipher and answer the riddle it asks.
- Who's who — match eight characters to what they do in the book.
- Make the pairs — complete four pairs (brother and sister, rider and horse…) from a set of cards.
- Odd one out — six rows on characters, places and events: find the one that does not belong.
- The last lock — choose two of the words earned in locks 1–6 to answer the final clue.
Most students take 30 to 45 minutes. They can work alone or in pairs on any device with a browser, or you can project the room and solve it together. Every answer checks itself, and progress is saved in the browser, so a room can be split across two lessons.
Locked Lessons is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by the C. S. Lewis Company or the publishers of the Chronicles of Narnia. These rooms are an independent study resource: they quote nothing from the books, so students need their own copy.
Questions
Which edition do the rooms use?
Any. The rooms ask about the characters, places and events of each book in their own words, so they work with any edition, in either reading order.
Who are the Narnia escape rooms for?
Readers from about grade 4 to grade 8: classical homeschoolers, literature circles, book clubs and English classes. Each room makes a good check once a book is finished.
What order are the rooms in?
The order the books were first published, from The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe to The Last Battle. Each room stands on its own, so they can be used in the chronological order too.
Is this an official Narnia resource?
Locked Lessons is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by the C. S. Lewis Company or the publishers of the Chronicles of Narnia. These rooms are an independent study resource: they quote nothing from the books, so students need their own copy.
Do students need accounts?
No. Students open a link on any Chromebook, laptop or tablet. There is nothing to install, and progress is saved in the browser so a room can be finished another day.
